Whimsy

A couple of things that have amused me this morning:

The questioner on Radio Wales asking an interviewer if what he would say if he had George Bushes' ear? My first thought was "go to hospital and get that sewn back on." Other (more serious) answers in the comments.

The interview with the scientist working on the Cern Hadron Collider which revealed that one of the delays in resuming their work is the cost of electricity over the winter months. Yes, we know what you mean!

A poster advertising a lecture in the Assembly on Tuesday entittled 'Alcohol and Violence: Insights from behavioural science and particle physics'. The lecturer is from Cardiff University's School of Dentistry. I expect a big turnout from the Assembly Police force.

I will get my coat now and leave.
Comments:
Was the lecture organised by the Assembly?

The whole WAG thing with Drugs and Alcohol is pretty appalling anyway. The money being spent on substance misuse is pretty low compared to the social problems caused by drug and alcohol misuse.

I seem to remember reading quite recently, that a Judge, when handing down a sentence to an addict informed the defendant that “Class A drug users like yourself cost society £800,000”, budget this year for Bridgend is around £650,000 similar figures for Port Talbot.

Is the WAG saying that we’ve only got 13/16th of a class “A” drug user in Bridgend this year? Ditto Port Talbot.

Whilst going off track a bit, 95% of our prison population have been in the “Care” system, a large majority of those in prison either have substance misuse and/or mental health issues. Does this statement tell us anything?

Tony Blair gave his famous “Tough on Crime” speech to the Labour Party Conference in October 1995, and I quote: “.....We all suffer crime, the poorest and vulnerable most of all, it is the duty of government to protect them. But we can make choices in spending to. And instead of wasting hundreds of millions of pounds on compulsory ID cards as the Tory Right demand, let that money provide thousands of extra police officers on the beat in our local communities. But the truth is that the best two crime prevention policies are a job and a stable family.”

Look at the last line of this statement “…the truth is that the best two crime prevention policies are a job and a stable family” – STABLE FAMILY.

WAG Consultation Document was issued in November 2006 “Proposed National Minimum Fostering Allowances” Quoting from this document:

“….73 % of the children in Wales in public care are looked after by foster carers, who provide the security and comfort of a family home for some of the most vulnerable children in our society.” – THE SECURITY AND COMFORT OF A FAMILY HOME.

As part of this consultation, the 2,000 foster parents in Wales weren’t asked directly by WAG, WAG chose to ask either their Local Authority or their Fostering Agency. I wasn’t asked, I did submit a response, but to date I have yet to see the findings of this report.

The last set of allowances for foster parents I seen was rated at around £110 per child over the age of 10. Foster parents aren’t allowed Family Allowance. Many foster parents are living poverty. So much for a stable family!

WAG – couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery.

No the lecture is not organised by the Assembly or by WAG. It is part of a series of lectures put on in the Assembly by Cardiff University staff and sponsored by individual AMs.
